We are pleased to announce that the 12th International Contrastive Linguistics Conference (ICLC-12) will be organised by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia, and will be held on 21–23 October 2027.
The ICLC conference series, running since 1998, aims to promote fine-grained cross-linguistic research involving two or more languages from a broad range of theoretical and methodological perspectives. Following the successful editions in Mannheim and Prague, ICLC-12 seeks to bring together researchers from different linguistic subfields and neighbouring disciplines to continue the interdisciplinary dialogue on comparing languages, foster the development of an international community, and advance new areas of cross-linguistic and contrastive linguistic research.
As comparative and contrastive approaches continue to play an important role in linguistic research, ICLC-12 will provide a platform for the presentation of new work, the discussion of current developments in the field, and reflection on future directions in contrastive linguistics.
We welcome submissions exploring topics including but not restricted to:
- Comparison of two or more languages on any linguistic level and in relation to any linguistic discipline
- Theoretical approaches in relation to contrastive linguistic research
- Methodologies used in contrastive linguistic research
- Corpus in contrastive studies
- Contrastive linguistic research and other disciplines (linguistic or not)
- Multiculturality, multimodality and multilingualism
- Language-specific and cross-linguistic contrastive studies
- Contrastive studies and foreign language teaching and learning
- Contrastive studies and translation studies
- Contrastive studies and machine translation
- Croatian language in contrastive linguistic research
Please note that the conference will be held onsite and that its language will be English.
The conference programme will also include a poster session and panel discussions, providing additional opportunities to present ongoing research.
Following the conference, participants will be invited to submit their contributions for peer-reviewed publication. Several publication venues are planned, and a separate call with further details will be announced after the conference.
